Building an Automated Transcoding Pipeline

Challenge
Sony Pictures Entertainment needed a quick, efficient, and cost-effective way to transcode their catalog of over 3000 movie titles to support their upcoming initiatives.
Solution
Arcadian was tasked with transcoding video and audio files, fixing any alignment or other technical errors we found. The goal was to deliver multiple video outputs in H.264, HEVC, and sound outputs that included ATMOS and DTS:X. All aligned and delivered as efficiently as possible.

Who is Sony Pictures Entertainment?
Our client is a major motion picture studio with a deep back catalog of movies stretching back for decades. They were looking to support multiple streaming projects and needed a partner that was both technically capable as well as financially affordable. The client, unfortunately, found that many of the back catalog titles had misaligned audio or video master files that were of varying quality and different source formats. Previous vendors had been too expensive and slow to meet the needs of these projects.

FEATURE LENGTH SOURCE FILES
The client needed their entire movie catalog aligned, transcoded and tested as efficiently and quickly as possible. Before they reached out to Arcadian, other vendors had been too slow and expensive to meet the financial requirements for their projects. Not only did Arcadian deliver on time and within budgets, but we built a modern automated video workflow that will handle any of their future needs.
4600+
HOURS OF CONTENT DELIVERED PER WEEK
The amount of content that the client needed delivered was a monumental challenge. Not only did some movies have multiple video source files, but multiple audio languages, and dozens of subtitle files. Arcadian had to build a workflow that could deliver a huge amount of content. It had to be stable, scalable and cost effective.
150K+
TOTAL HOURS OF CONTENT DELIVERED
The client catalog is huge and the amount of data that needed to be processed, transferred and secured presented a unique challenge. Infrastructure and software solutions had to handle files that could be larger than 200 GB. One movie could exceed 2 Terabytes across all associated files. Arcadian had to account for all this data and ensure that it was delivered securely and on time.
